Questions to Ask Before Adopting a Pet

Adopting and taking care of a pet whether it?s a dog, cat or parrot is fun but requires a great deal of responsibility. Having a pet in your home has its own share of ups and downs. Don?t get me wrong, having a pet will always be one of life?s most unique and rewarding experiences.?

If you?re pondering whether it is a good time to adopt a pet, below are eight simple questions you should ask before taking a pet into your home.?

How do you view pet adoption??

Pet adoption is not a bed of roses. Pet adoption requires a great deal of responsibility. To consider it as an obligation might sound too negative but upon careful consideration it really is. In order to arrive at a better and more informed decision, you need to see both the advantages and disadvantages of pet adoption.?

Is your child ready or mature enough to take care of a pet??

For families with children, the next question that you should be asking yourself is whether or not your child is ready or mature enough to take care of a pet. Needless to say, taking care of a pet is not the sole responsibility of the family member who brought the pet ? it?s the responsibility of the entire family.?

How much time does your family spend outdoors??

Another critical factor in pet adoption is the time you invest in taking care of your dog. Providing food, medical and grooming services are not enough. You need to invest your own time so that your pet will be nurtured both physically and emotionally. An attachment between you and your pet should be established ? that?s the true test of effective pet adoption.?

Are you ready and willing to take on additional expenses??

Having a pet in your home means additional expenses. Before adopting a pet, you need to assess that you are ready to spend on dog food and medical services. This includes expenses such as vaccines, anti-rabies injections, vitamins, dog walkers, among others.?

Does anyone in your family suffer from allergies??

Adopting a pet is certainly not a good idea when you have a family member who has a history of allergies. Pets like dogs, parrots, rabbits and other cute fur-coated animals are a big no-no when a person has allergies. According to estimates, about 6 percent of the world?s population is allergic to animals.

What house rules do you need to implement concerning your pet??

Setting house rules that concern your pet is imperative. Having no house rules can be a source of disaster. Hence you need to establish agreements between you and members of your family. For instance, decide on who will take the pet for a walk or who will bathe it.?

Are you responsible enough to adopt and take care of a pet??

Perhaps the biggest question that you should be asking yourself when you are considering pet adoption is whether or not you are responsible enough to take care of a pet. Owning a pet is not simply intended for dun, it?s also intended to develop responsibility.

Which type of pet is right for you??
Knowing what type of pet is right for you is also critical in pet adoption. Of course, different types of people have different types of personalities and not all personalities blend well with certain pets.?

'The Bachelorette' gives final rose to ABC ratings

(AP) ? Emily Maynard's big choice on "The Bachelorette" led ABC to one of its best summertime ratings in two years.

The single mom from Charlotte, N.C., gave her final rose to entrepreneur Jef Holm in the show's season finale on Sunday, selecting him over racecar driver Arie Luyendyk Jr. Nielsen said both the two-hour episode and the hourlong "After the Final Rose" interview special that followed drew nearly 9 million viewers. The Nielsen Co. said the second-to-last season episode on Monday also finished among the week's top 10 shows.

ABC narrowly beat Fox for first place among young viewers last week. Overall, it was the network's best week in the summer ratings in two years ? except for weeks when ABC televised the NBA finals.

With its reruns and the start of a new edition of "Big Brother," CBS won among all viewers in the slow summertime week. CBS averaged 5.3 million viewers (3.5 rating, 6 share).

ABC averaged 4.9 million viewers (3.2, 6), NBC had 4.3 million (2.8, 5), Fox had 3.8 million (2.2, 4), ION Television had 1.1 million (0.8, 1) and the CW had 740,000 (0.5, 1).

Among the Spanish-language networks, Univision led with a 3.7 million viewer average in prime time (1.8, 3). Telemundo had 1.4 million (0.8, 1), TeleFutura had 530,000 (0.3, 1), Estrella had 170,000 and Azteca 120,000 (both 0.1, 0).

NBC's "Nightly News" topped the evening newscasts with an average of 7.7 million viewers (5.3, 11). ABC's "World News" was second with 7.3 million (4.9, 10), and the "CBS Evening News" had 5.7 million viewers (3.9, 8).

A ratings point represents 1,147,000 households, or 1 percent of the nation's estimated 114.7 million TV homes. The share is the percentage of in-use televisions tuned to a given show.

For the week of July 16-22, the top 10 shows, their networks and viewerships: "America's Got Talent" (Tuesday), NBC, 10.17 million; "The Big Bang Theory," CBS, 8.99 million; "The Bachelorette" (Sunday), ABC, 8.86 million; "The Bachelorette After the Rose," ABC, 8.8 million; "America's Got Talent" (Wednesday), NBC, 7.61 million; "60 Minutes," CBS, 7.46 million; "Two and a Half Men" (Thursday), CBS, 7.43 million; "NCIS," CBS, 7.2 million; "The Bachelorette" (Monday), ABC, 7.16 million; "Hell's Kitchen" (Monday), Fox, 6.333 million.

HBT: Hamilton hitting just .201 in last 40 games

Josh Hamilton went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts last night, chasing a bunch of pitches out of the strike zone in the process, and now has a batting average below .300 and a slugging percentage below .600 for the first time this season.

That doesn?t sound so bad, of course, but considering how ridiculous Hamilton?s numbers were early on it?s been quite a fall.

He hit .395 with a .744 slugging percentage in April and .344 with a .781 slugging percentage in May, but since June 1 he?s batting just .201 with a .396 slugging percentage and 51 strikeouts in 40 games.

Hamilton has struck out in 30.1 percent of his plate appearances during that time, compared to 18.8 percent in April and May, and he?s also drawn just 13 non-intentional walks in 169 trips to the plate.
