Williams won't play mixed doubles at the Olympics, and the two U.S. teams will instead feature four doubles specialists ? the Bryan brothers, Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond.

Williams, who is competing in singles and with her sister Venus in women's doubles, had repeatedly said she also wanted to play mixed doubles. But she became coy about the subject in recent weeks and wasn't on the list when teams were nominated Tuesday. Competition begins Wednesday with 16 teams.

Communist authorities in China are cracking down on the seven priests of the Diocese of Heilongjiang who opposed the ordination of Father Joseph Yue Fusheng to the episcopate.

The ordination, which took place without a pontifical mandate, resulted in Bishop Yue?s automatic excommunication. There are 37 priests who serve in the diocese, which is located in the northeastern part of the country.

The seven, who either refused to take part in the ceremony or made known their opposition, are banned from exercising their priestly ministry for three months and have been ordered by civil authorities to concelebrate with Bishop Yue or face additional consequences. Since the order was given, one priest has concelebrated with the excommunicated prelate.

Since the Communists assumed power in China in 1949, the diocese has had only two bishops: Bishop Peter Wang Ruihuan, who led the diocese from 1959 until his death in 1992, and Bishop Liu Huanbo, who led the diocese until his death in 1997. Neither received Vatican approval.

No support has been shown for this Christian couple; instead a vengeful cleric was quoted saying that these ought to be put to death for becoming murtad (apostates). How do they reconcile this ?killer? attitude with the ?felicitator? role for the same act, i.e. change of religion?

Syria fighting continues as rebels deny regime gains- Top Syrian diplomat in London defects

Syrian government forces mounted new ground attacks against rebel-controlled neighborhoods in Syria's commercial hub of Aleppo, the state media said Monday, but failed to dislodge the opposition from their strongholds, according to activists.

The Syrian army has massed its forces around Aleppo, where rebels hold several neighborhoods after a 10-day offensive, and has been pounding it with tanks and helicopter gunships. There have also been periodic incursions of government tanks but the rebels have held on to their gains.

This use of heavy weapons, particularly helicopters, is just another nail in President Bashar Assad's coffin, U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said late Sunday during a stopover in Tunisia as he kicked off a Mideast tour expected to focus heavily on the unfolding crisis in Syria.

Already an estimated 200,000 civilians -- almost 10 percent of the population -- have fled the fighting in Aleppo, according to the U.N. official for humanitarian affairs, Valerie Amos, citing the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Syrian Red Crescent. Aleppo is Syria's largest city with around 3 million inhabitants.

Syrian state media reported late Sunday that the army had "purged" Aleppo's southwestern neighborhood of Salaheddine and inflicted "great losses" upon the rebels in one of the first districts they took control of in their bid to seize the city.

There was also a successful operation in Sukhour neighborhood, in the northeast of the city and another rebel stronghold, the state media said.

Activists, however, disputed these claims and just described another day of fierce shelling of certain areas, backed up by the occasional foray on the ground.

"They have tanks in nearby Hamdaniya and there is fighting, and there have been random bombardments of Salaheddine," said Mohammed Saeed, who is based in the embattled city.

While giving no indication that the Obama administration is contemplating military intervention, Panetta said it is increasingly clear that the Syrian crisis is deepening and that Assad is hastening his own demise.

"If they continue this kind of tragic attack on their own people ... I think it ultimately will be a nail in Assad's coffin," Panetta told reporters traveling with him from Washington. "His regime is coming to an end."

Assad's regime has been plagued by a string of defections, including three high ranking diplomats and several military commanders. On Monday, a Turkish official announced that a Syrian brigadier general who was deputy chief of police in Syria's Latakia region, had defected.

The general was among a group of 12 Syrian officers who crossed into Turkey late Sunday, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of Turkish government rules. His defection raises the number of generals to have left for Turkey since the start of the 17-month-old uprising to 28.

But Syria's army remains mostly intact and still vastly outguns the rag-tag rebel army, which is armed for the most part with assault rifles, machine guns and doesn't have the heavy weapons necessary to effectively oppose tanks and helicopter gunships.

The government boosted its forces outside Aleppo and began an assault over the weekend to retake the commercial hub, bombarding rebel neighborhoods and leaving streets littered with rubble and empty apartment blocks with gaping smashed windows, according to videos of the city posted online in recent days.

Fleeing residents described to The Associated Press incessant shelling, shortages of food and gasoline and soaring black market prices for everyday staples.

"I am extremely concerned by the impact of shelling and use of tanks and other heavy weapons on people in Aleppo," Amos said in a statement from New York late Sunday. "Many people have sought temporary shelter in schools and other public buildings in safer areas. They urgently need food, mattresses and blankets, hygiene supplies and drinking water."

She added that while the fighting made getting to the needy very difficult, the U.N. agencies and the Red Crescent were continuing their efforts to deliver food, blankets and hygiene kits.

BeIn Sports Preps for Aug. 15 Launch of Soccer Channel Pair

BeIn Sport will kick off its pair of soccer channels next month. The question is how many affiliates will be in its distribution net.
Armed with the rights to three top European leagues -- Spain's top circuit La Liga; France's premier division, La Ligue Un (English-only); and Italy's Serie A; among other soccer properties -- beIn Sport is targeting an Aug. 15 kickoff for both English- and Spanish-language services.
They add to a growing roster of U.S. outlets presenting international soccer matches and garnering increased ratings. But they also come at a time when distributors are looking to contain rising program costs.

Miami-headquartered Imagina US, which is handling distribution and providing technical support for the launch of the multiplatform sports, continues to negotiate with potential affiliates and is sanguine that a couple will be on board at launch.
Antonio Brice?o, vice president of affiliate sales for Imagina US, noted that "nothing is absolute until it is put to paper, but we continue to negotiate. We're 99% sure there will be at least one distributor at launch, and two continues to be the goal. And we expect more over time."
Briceno also said that beIn Sport's launch is on schedule, relative to staffing, operations and production. When beIn Sports announced its presence in May, it said it was eyeing an Aug. 1 bow. Briceno, though, said it was always the plan to begin testing the signal on July 15 and that the feed for the English and Spanish-language channels would be split on Aug. 1. He said that would give operators some time to fine-tune any reception issues, ahead of the networks' Aug. 15 rollout.
A survey of leading U.S. distributors last week indicated that some were engaged in negotiations with Imagina US, but none had struck any deals. One executive at a large provider, though, said the company had not heard anything meaningful from Imagina US.

"There have been some phone conversations, but nothing formal. There not negotiating with us," said the industry veteran. "Please send the deck. There hasn't been anything in writing."
Briceno disagreed with that characterization. "We've sent term sheets, with conditions to all major distributors," he said. "We've not been engaged with all of the small operators, but certainly been talking to all of the major players."
Sources in the U.S. TV sports community said there was some question as to whether beIn Sports actually holds all of the La Liga rights in the U.S. They say Spanish-media company Prisa TV is currently speaking with sports agencies about repping the rights for a number of the teams here, with a decision perhaps coming as early as this week.

La Liga comprises 20 teams, including world-renowned sides FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, whose respective rosters include Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, arguably the globe's two top players.
Briceno said he had been focused on the operational side and was not aware of any specific complications that could put rights beIn Sport's U.S. rights to La Liga in jeopardy. He noted that every season over the past 12 years there has been some off-season challenge to Mediapro's team rights. He added, though, that in order to televise La Liga matches, rights to both the home and away teams must be in the fold. As such, should there be any changes, there would have to be another set of negotiations with Mediapro.
Imagina group -- the holding company of the two largest Spanish content producers, Grupo Globomedia and Mediapro, which is also engaged in rights negotiations -- is the majority shareholder in Imagina US. The Miami-headquartered company's management team operates autonomously.
One TV executive contacted last week said he was certain there were provisions in any carriage contract relative to the level of beIN Sports' rights to La Liga. "That would certainly be material," he said.
Briceno said beIn Sports has bolstered its rights stable in recent months, adding the Copa Italia, Super Copa Italia and Capital One Cup (formerly the Carling Cup) competitions, as well as the Football League Championship, England's second division circuit behind the Barclays Premier League. The networks also hold the rights to the Copa America tournament, as well as South American World Cup qualifiers ahead of FIFA's 2014 tournament in Brazil.
The panoply of rights that beIN Sport has secured were previously held and aired on Gol TV, ESPN2, Fox Soccer, Fox Soccer Plus, Fox Deportes and Univision.
Briceno said the "marching orders" remained the same relative to beIn Sport's plans "not to sublicense any of the rights to the three major league properties." He said there might be some flexibility with the additional rights that have been acquired.
Although beIN Sports' game plan still calls to stream channels to authenticated subscribers, the services will not be available at launch.
The Imagina US executive noted that beIn Sports's will anchor its Saturday and Sunday coverage with Express Weekend, a show that will air over the course of eight hours, connecting to the different stadiums where matches will be played on those days, and serving up previews, highlights and analysis.
"We're going to present football in a new and exciting way," said Briceno.

In Asia, equities ended higher bolstered by ECB President?s comments while European equities also traded in green territory on Monday. The Pan European Stoxx 600 Index was up 1%, at last check.

In the U.S. economic front, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago is scheduled to release Chicago Fed Midwest Manufacturing Index for June at 8:30 a.m. Eastern.? The reading was 93.4 for May.

Earnings season continues on Monday as Anadarko Petroleum (NYSE:APC), Franklin Resources (NYSE:BEN) and Eastman Chemical Company (NYSE: EMN) are expected to announce quarterly results.

Meanwhile, in some other markets, Nymex crude-oil futures were flat on Monday at $90.13 a barrel in electronic trade. Gold futures added 50 cents to trade at $1,618.50 an ounce as rising expectations of further monetary easing raised metal?s inflation hedge appeal.

The 1-ton?Curiosity rover?? which will search for evidence that Mars is, or ever was, capable of supporting microbial life ? represents humanity's 40th effort to explore the Red Planet over the last half-century.

The huge number of attempted Mars missions may seem surprising, especially since many of our?solar system's other planets and moons remain relatively unstudied. But the Red Planet keeps calling us back ? and for good reason, experts say.

"Mars?is such a compelling scientific target," said Scott Hubbard of Stanford University, the former "Mars Czar" who restructured NASA's Red Planet program after it suffered several high-profile failures in the late 1990s.

"You can get to it every 26 months, and it's the place in the solar system most likely to have had life emerge," Hubbard told SPACE.com. "If you add that to Mars being also the most logical ultimate target for human exploration, I think that Mars will continue to be part of the space exploration portfolio." Fifty years of Mars exploration

The?Mars exploration?era began in October 1960, when the Soviet Union launched two probes four days apart. The spacecraft, known in the West as Marsnik 1 and Marsnik 2, were designed to perform flybys of the Red Planet, but neither even reached Earth orbit.

The United States got in the game in 1964, launching the Mariner 3 spacecraft on an intended Mars flyby. The mission failed, but Mariner 4 succeeded, cruising past the Red Planet in July 1965 and sending 21 photos back to Earth.

The nation built on that accomplishment, sending a series of orbiters, landers and rovers to Mars over the following five decades.

Notable NASA successes include the Viking 1 and Viking 2 missions, which sent orbiters and landers toward the Red Planet in 1975; the?Spirit and Opportunity rovers, which landed in January 2004; the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, which arrived at the Red Planet in 2006; and the Phoenix lander, which discovered subsurface water ice in 2008.

But failure remains a regular part of Mars exploration. NASA setbacks include the Mars Polar Lander and Mars Climate Orbiter, two missions that were lost upon arrival at the Red Planet in late 1999. And none of the 19 Mars efforts the Soviet Union/Russia has launched over the years achieved its goals in full.

Overall, the success rate for Mars missions is south of 50 percent.

Tea party cavalry rides into Texas to support Cruz

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) ? Tea party superstars from across the country are converging on Texas in hopes of helping grassroots darling and U.S. Senate hopeful Ted Cruz pull off an upset that had long seemed unthinkable against the mainstream Republican choice Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint are headlining a get-out-the-vote rally Friday night in suburban Houston. That will come a day after fellow tea party favorites, U.S. Sens. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Utah's Mike Lee, appear at a basketball arena in Dallas on Cruz's behalf. Paul and Lee will be joined by radio host Glenn Beck and former Texas Rep. Dick Armey, who's now chairman of the conservative organization FreedomWorks.

Cruz, who's Cuban-American and the former Texas solicitor general, is locked in a fierce battle with Dewhurst for the Republican nomination to replace retiring U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison. Dewhurst has overseen the state Senate from the powerful lieutenant governor's post since 2003.

Dewhurst won the May 29 Texas primary by 10 percentage points but fell short of an outright majority in a nine-candidate GOP field. He and Cruz square off Tuesday in a runoff, with the winner seen as the overwhelming favorite to win November's general election.

While he has overseen decidedly conservative Legislatures, Dewhurst has also been unapologetic about occasionally compromising with Democratic lawmakers to ensure key legislation is passed. That has made him a tea party target.

In Dewhurst's corner is Gov. Rick Perry, a former GOP presidential candidate who remains popular with conservatives back home. Many Republican state lawmakers also support him, but it may not be enough to mobilize voters during the summer doldrums ? when Cruz supporters have promised to turn out in droves but many other Texans could be more worried about staying cool than casting ballots.

Cruz spokesman James Bernsen said he wouldn't characterize the back-to-back rallies as the tea party cavalry riding to Cruz's rescue since Palin had previously recorded a phone message to voters on Cruz's behalf. Paul also spoke at a May rally with Cruz in Austin, and FreedomWorks has spent months mobilizing Cruz volunteers.

"For a long time, people have been watching this race around the country and realizing this is the most important test for the tea party in America," Bernsen said. "This is ground zero for the debate between whether we're going to have a tea party candidate or an establishment, moderate candidate."

Some polls have given Cruz a slight advantage in the runoff due to his high favorability with those who identify as likely voters. He also has slightly outraised Dewhurst in recent weeks. Dewhurst, who owns an energy firm, has lent his campaign more than $10 million. But Cruz has gotten millions from DeMint's Senate Conservatives Fund, as well as the anti-tax Club for Growth based in Washington.

In an interview Wednesday as he traveled to a campaign stop in McAllen along the U.S.-Mexico border, Dewhurst said Cruz was "beholden to" outside groups that have given him so much money, adding, "That, to me, is of concern for Texans."

"I'm not at all surprised that Mr. Cruz has support from different people around the country. I've never gone to any of these people and asked them for their support," Dewhurst told The Associated Press. "I've been focused on Texans. My focus is Texas, not Washington and all of these people from other states that Mr. Cruz seems to want or need to come in and embrace him."

It's a contrast Dewhurst has tried to hammer home in recent weeks, flooding the airwaves with advertising. In a new television commercial dubbed "Texas vs. Washington" and unveiled Wednesday, the lieutenant governor touts his business experience and his overseeing of tax and spending cuts in the Texas Legislature ? while dismissing Cruz as a "lawyer trained in Washington."

In the interview, Dewhurst also fired back specifically at DeMint, Paul and Lee, as well as former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, who has previously endorsed Cruz.

Salvation Army Drug Treatment Programs

There are about 100 Adult Rehab Centers (ARC's) operated by The Salvation Army in the United States. The aim of the drug treatment centers is to provide recovery from chemical dependencies, learn helpful coping skills, and a faith-based way of life. The whole program helps patients live a life free from alcohol and drugs.

Treatment Programs

The patients stay in the treatment facility for six months or more. Patients are provided with necessary things such as food and clothing, educational materials and job training. This will help patient to focus on the treatment programs and recovery. The patients work in the facility to do on-the-job training as part of the treatment program. This will help them develop job skills that are helpful when they step out of the facility. Leisure and entertainment are also planned to balance their life inside the center. These programs help participants adjust to the life after the treatment while fostering cooperation and interpersonal skills.

Treatment Cost

The Salvation Army drug treatment centers do not require health insurance or any money for the treatment. Patients work inside the facility as part of their treatment program at the same time earns to pay for their treatment. The Salvation Army Treatment Facilities do not solicit government aid for its facilities and programs. Moreover, they receive support from willing individuals, business groups and other organization. The center accepts items that can be sold in the Salvation Army thrift stores. The money earned will be used to finance the treatment center.

Treatment Approach

The Salvation Army Drug and Alcohol Rehabs have a faith-based approach to treatment. They accept patients who are self-referred or referred by friends, family or court who are willing to undergo Christian-based treatment programs. One of the most common concerns in adoption is the finances.? Although it needs discussion, it should never deter a family from adopting.? All children cost money to come home to their families, whether biologically or through adoption.? It is just that we usually have insurance to help with medical costs of a biological child.? Adoption is like a delivery without insurance.? You could have costs similar to an unassisted home birth all the way up to an emergency c-section with a NICU stay.? For instance, you could adopt through the foster care system with little to no cost all the way up to a drawn out international adoption.? No matter what your story is, all children cost money.

We have 4 children through adoption and there are many people over the years that have said there were more cost efficient ways to adopt.? The truth is, though, these were our children and we would have gone anywhere and done anything to bring them home.? For all of them, we used methods to connect us with lawyers that processed our paperwork.? With our daughters? international adoptions, we had an organization here in the states connected us with a lawyer in country.? The fees associated with working with them were necessary in an international adoption.? They assisted in the care at the orphanage, paid the paperwork and lawyer fees, organized trips, provided escorts when needed and kept us abreast of movement in our adoption. Using an independent organization is not typical as most countries people adopt from are a part of the Hague Convention and require accredited agencies to be used. Our daughters? birth country was not a part of the Hague Convention, and this organization and lawyer were the best route for us.

Last year, we brought home a son domestically as a newborn.? For his adoption, we also didn?t use a conventional route for adoption.? We weren?t new to the adoption process, but we were new to the domestic protocol and programs.? We made a decision to add another fee to our adoption journey.? It was a decision we have never regretted.? We found an adoption consultant.? It was a pretty spectacular experience for us and one I recommend now.? We used Tracie with Christian Adoption Consultants.? Tracie was kind and encouraging.? As an adoptive mother herself, she is intimately aware of what families are going through and sensitive to their individual journeys.? She was our guide through the adoption process.? She could help with every step of the process, from creating a profile to raising finances to matching with agencies and birth mothers.? Having gone through adoptions and home studies before, her most valuable role to us was to network with accredited agencies throughout the country that met our requirements.? She did the leg work for us, reducing the wait time immensely.? We signed on with her on a Tuesday and on Thursday, we were matched with the lawyer that would help us find our son.? The lawyer?s fees were comparable to that of other adoption agencies.? The following Thursday, we were matched with our son?s birth mother.

All of the time, new resources and people step up to aid in connecting families with children in need.? An adoption consultant is a new and brilliant way to take the stress out of the unknowns.? It is like putting an expert in your back pocket.? Quite honestly, even just a year later, the money we poured into bringing our son home?even the ?extra? costs, are a distant memory.? I would have done a thousand fundraisers to bring him home.? You can?t really put a price tag on investing in a child, can you? He was so worth it, and it was money well spent.
